Scouts is the final section of our Scouting Family here at 1st Topcliffe.   (There's still Explorers, Network and Leadership to follow!) You do not need to have been in any of the other sections to join our Scout group - anyone aged between 10 and 14 years old can jump in and get muddy. Give back, get set and go for it.  With international jamborees offered, the world is at your doorstep.

Young people can join Scouts from their 10th birthday; and when they reach 14 they can move on to the District Explorers - we can signpost you in the right direction.

Our Scout Troop meets on Fridays, 7pm-9pm in Topcliffe and Asenby Village Hall.

A group of Scouts is called a Troop.

A Scout Troop is made up of Patrols - at 1st Topcliffe our patrols are Kestrels, Hawks and Owls. Each Patrol has a Patrol Leader and an Assistant Patrol Leader.

When you join Scouts, you make a Promise. The Promise for Scouts is:

'On my honour, I promise that I will do my best to do my duty to God and to the Queen, to help other people and to keep the Scout Law.'*

The Scout Law is:

  1. A Scout is to be trusted.

  2. Scout is loyal.

  3. A Scout is friendly and considerate.

  4. A Scout belongs to the world-wide family of Scouts.

  5. A Scout has courage in all difficulties.

  6. A Scout makes good use of time and is careful of possessions and property.

  7. A Scout has self-respect and respect for others.

Scouts work towards the Chief Scout Gold Award.  This is made up of 9 Challenges and a minimum of 6 activity badges.  The Challenge awards for Scouts are: Adventure Challenge, Creative Challenge, Expedition Challenge, Outdoors Challenge, Personal Challenge, Skills Challenge, Teamwork Challenge, Team Leader Challenge and World Challenge.  Follow the link to find out more about all these badges and more information: https://www.scouts.org.uk/scouts/
